La mer est bleu is a work about Europe, the sea, the migration of the gaze, awareness and content-aware software removals. All of it compressed into a single animated GIF sitting on a .eu domain, plus an ongoing collection of images on Tumblr.

What the content-aware software erases, frame after frame, are the migrants. The boats and the bodies disappear, the sea closes over them, and the image stays as blue and calm as if nothing had ever happened.
